Vintage July at Bordeaux with new traffic records

Bernie Baldwin

Bordeaux Airport set a new monthly record figure for passenger movement in July 2019, when 837,386 passengers passed through the airport, the first time in any month that the 800,000 mark had been surpassed.

The result meant passenger numbers were 99,807 up on the July 2018 figure, an increase of 13.5%. Within that July 2019 statistic, Bordeaux’s international traffic also set a new monthly high with 554,500 passengers, a 21.7%  rise.

Passenger figures on the long-haul route to Montreal went up by more than 52%, aided by the arrival of Air Canada on 4 July and the continued growth of Air Transat with its A321neo operation. Between the two carriers there is  now equivalent of a daily flight.

While international traffic rose significantly, domestic traffic increased only slightly, by 0.4%. This increase occurred despite a drop in traffic to Paris (–8%) and thanks to the increased numbers travelling to Strasbourg (+80%), Brest (+66%), Marseille (+37%) and Lille (+16%).

Low-fare airlines continued to provide the majority of the traffic at the airport, accounting for more than 60% of July’s total with growth of 22.6% to 525,099 passengers.
