Passenger experience remains at the heart of key expansion and modernisation as SKY Express strengthens support networks.

Sky Express has had a busy summer with the opening of a new route from Athens to London Heathrow, orders for new ATR aircraft to expand the fleet and the creation of a second new hub at Heraklion on Crete.

Although Heathrow slots are at a premium, SKY Express has been able to begin a service operating every day of the week except Saturday. The route is being operated by the airline’s new Airbus A320neo fleet. The onboard product experience features free service, premium branded products, but also a new ‘Drinks & Bites’ menu.

SKY Express’s network enhancement has also been happening closer to home with Heraklion on Crete becoming the airline’s second hub. This move aims to bring greater development to the island on a national and international level, the carrier states.

Services from the Heraklion hub will include routes to four domestic destinations (Athens, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Volos) and seven international services (Paris, Nantes, Lyon, Lille, Hamburg, Dortmund, Amsterdam).

To aid that growing network, SKY Express and ATR have agreed on a deal for the airline to take delivery of five more ATR 72600 to add to the one delivered on 30 June.

“We are expanding and modernising our fleet, increasing the number of destinations we serve and evolving our operations,” declared Ioannis Grylos, CEO of the IOGR Group of companies, which includes SKY Express. “The acquisition of six new ATR 72600s is yet another landmark in our journey. In today’s context, it is more important than ever to be able to offer our passengers efficient and flexible solutions with the best possible standards of comfort and safety. Following the addition of the six new Airbus A320neos that are already crossing Greek and international skies, our ATRs will support the Greek tourism industry and help reboot the Greek economy, always showing due respect to our passengers and the environment, reaching every single region of our country”.
