How the “build-your-own meal” concept will enhance the customer inflight experience and put them in control of their meal choices.

As a select group of European airports prepare to welcome JetBlue Airways later this year, the New York-based carrier has unveiled an onboard product that it says will “shake up” the passenger experience in its Core (economy) cabin. London is the first destination on the airline’s list of European destinations. Heathrow is expected to be the airport to which JetBlue flies, but no official announcement has yet been made.

Catering on these flights will feature a “build-your-own meal” designed by the restaurant group, Dig. This offering will put the customer in control, allowing them to customise their own meal from their seatback screen. Additionally, there will be an onboard pantry with self-serve snacks, complimentary soft drinks, coffee, tea, beer, wine and liquor.

In addition to this meal service, passengers will have the same seat pitch on its Airbus A321LRs for which it has become renowned in its markets across the Americas. There will be a 32-inch pitch between the Collins Meridian seats that used customer feedback in their design and benefit from in-seat power from AC and USB-C ports.

Customers in both JetBlue’s Core and Mint (JetBlue’s premium product) will have connectivity throughout the flight with unlimited, free high-speed Wi-Fi. The entertainment selection will feature live TV channels plus an extensive audio and video library. Each seat in Core will have a 10.1 inch, 1080P high definition screen.

Alongside all these Core features, JetBlue will still have its Mint product on the new routes. This has been redesigned for transatlantic flights and features 24 private suites with a sliding door for every Mint customer plus numerous ‘design touches’ to help passengers feel “at home”. JetBlue’s latest innovation, the Mint Studio, will be introduced on these flights.
