Berlin Brandenburg sets opening date

It’s been a long time coming, but the airline’s operations will begin on 31 October 2020.

The Supervisory Board of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) approved the proposal from the Management Board at its meeting on 29 November. Scheduled flights at Berlin Tegel will end a week later on 8 November. During that week, three major relocation steps will switch flight operations between the two airports.

The decision to proceed next October was preceded by an intense discussion regarding the status of construction completion at Terminal 1 at BER and the steps still needing completion. This involved the construction division reporting on the available final expert certificates and on the status of correcting the remaining faults in the cabling. TÜV Rheinland also took part in the meeting again and presented the progress of its inspections. These  inspections should be completed in spring 2020.

According to the Management Board, Terminal T2 construction is progressing well and in line with planning. Installation of the baggage handling system and other technical building equipment has begun.
