Additional fleet enhances both the airline’s capacity and the wider industry landscape for Greece.
Greek regional airline SKY express is adding narrowbody aircraft to its current all-turboprop fleet having signed a firm order with Airbus for four A320neo aircraft plus a lease agreement for two further A320neos with ACG Aviation Capital Group. The incoming aircraft will all be powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines.
The airline says the acquisition of these aircraft “marks a new era for SKY express and it inevitably changes the airline industry landscape of Greece”. The first A320neo flight by the carrier is scheduled to take place on 14 December on the Athens–Thessaloniki route.
By March 2021 these new additions to the fleet will be operating domestic routes as well as international ones. They will sport a revamped livery, featuring blue and fuchsia stripes, designed not only to underscore this milestone for the airline but also, according to SKY express, “to convey the message ‘Greece is bliss’ everywhere.” The seven blue lines symbolise the ‘seven days of the week, seven days full of travel’, while the fuchsia lines are eight in number, with ‘8’ denoting ‘the infinity of the horizon and the sky’.”
